Dorothy “Dot” Cummings
August 7, 1927 – December 1, 2023
Dorothy Cummings was a source of boundless joy and optimism. Throughout Dot’s marriage to Nick, they were best friends and partners. Dot had a master’s degree in social work and was a fierce advocate for mental healthcare. She was deeply committed to philanthropy, education and, most of all, her family.
Dr. Nicholas “Nick” Cummings
July 25, 1924 – June 8, 2020
During a lifetime dedicated to psychology, Dr. Nicholas Cummings led groundbreaking research into remarkable therapeutic models, established new ways to practice and challenged long-held assumptions to discover newfound truths. Nick attributed all his successes to his wife Dot and her ability to bring out the best in those around her.
Board of Directors and Staff
Andrew “Andy” Cummings is the son of Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings. He is a retired healthcare attorney who holds an L.L.M. from Boston University, a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, and a B.S. in business administration from California State University, Sacramento. Andy teaches boating safety, marine navigation and scuba diving, and is a professional photographer. He lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, with his wife, Julie.
Dr. Janet Cummings is the daughter of Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings. She has a bachelor’s degree in pre-med and linguistics, a Masters in linguistics, and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Wright State University. She has authored dozens of journal articles and books on behavioral health. Janet is an animal lover and hosts a menagerie in her home, including cats, dogs, goats and mini horses.
Mary Denny is one of Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings’ grandchildren. She attended Western Governors University, earning a Master of Science in management and leadership as well as a Bachelor of Arts in business with a minor in music education. Mary married her high school sweetheart and has three children. Her hobbies include music, reading and being a loving mom.
Kent Geiser is one of Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings’ grandchildren. He is working toward a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design and advertising at Grand Canyon University. Kent works as the director of information technology at a K-12 private school. He lives in Reno, Nevada, and enjoys Airsoft, go-carting, video games and taking care of animals, especially his German Shepherd.
Kristen DeMara leads the effective operations, governance, and grantmaking of The Nicholas & Dorothy Cummings Foundation. For more than two decades, Kristen has been a director at Community Services Agency, a nonprofit on the cutting edge of human service delivery in Reno, Nevada.
Kim DuVall provides financial oversight and ensures the foundation's budget is in line with its goals. She brings more than 20 years of accounting experience to The Nicholas & Dorothy Cummings Foundation.
